Flooring Trend Forecast 2024

This year’s flooring trends are saying goodbye to gray and cool-toned hues and warming up to more natural, golden hues and rich, neutral brown tones. We continue to see a more minimalist, Scandinavian influence regarding finishes and textures with an emphasis on clean lines and functional style. The popularity of resilient flooring continues to evolve with luxury vinyl and rigid core flooring leading the way, offering incredibly realistic wood looks paired with exceptional wear-resistance and waterproof features. The rise of engineered wood continues to be a tough rival for solid wood, providing hardwood-lovers with the benefit of multi-layer construction for greater dimensional stability and an improved resistance to moisture. The latest looks in engineered wood finishes favor wider planks with an unfinished, matte appearance to channel a lived-in, European aesthetic. Overall, 2024 flooring trends seem to reflect a consumer departure from throw-away design trends with a stronger preference for sustainable, enduring materials that merit timelessness and quality.

The Reign of White Oaks

The designer love affair with white oak will continue but with a slight shift from the cool, white-washed tones of last year to deep golden oaks and soft taupes that boast neutral undertones. These versatile finishes translate beautifully into various design schemes with their ability to brighten spaces, emphasize coziness and create a feeling of tranquility. Light oak-inspired finishes are also noted for their ability to create the illusion of a bigger, more open space as well as provide a muted, neutral backdrop for other colors to pop.

Earthy Textures

An affinity for nature and raw materials puts stone-inspired finishes in the spotlight with many vinyl and rigid core flooring boasting impressively realistic stone prints and textures. Unlike tile which often feels cold to the touch, these finishes offer all the warmth and insultation of vinyl so you can embrace the beauty of stone (barefoot or not!) Another reason stone finishes are quickly becoming a staple in bathrooms, laundry rooms and other spaces is due to the zen ambiance they create and the ability to transform any room into a calm, spa-like setting.

Balanced Browns

While brown seems to be taking a backseat during the reign of white oak—An introduction to neutral, mid-brown shades with subtle ashy undertones (think soft mushroom browns and smokey taupes) are putting a fresh spin on the cozy classic. This shift towards darker colors may be signaling an end to the lighter palette but we expect the new brown finishes to return with softer, more neutral tones.

Untouched Finishes

Hardwood surfaces continue to lean towards smooth, matte finishes with subtle grains that are raw and understated. We'll see less rustic touches and more minimal details with little to no knotting or distressing.
